Marathon10 - Feedback from Participants

Lots of :
It was fun!,  congratulations, thank yous, enjoyed, wonderful

It reminded me of the early days of the club before robots and the relaxed club, when courtesy and fun was the aim and no worries about scores.

I DID ENJOY THE GAMES I PLAYED WITH THE MENTORS

Marathon10 was a great success.  Wonderful opportunity to  play with very helpful and experienced teachers, mentors, experts, etc., and, most importantly, make new friends. Congratulations to you and your wonderful Marathon10 Team.   Thank you!!

What a privilege to play in this tourney. And it's still going at the time I write this. Wow. Now I hope it carries over to more tables in the BIL through the New Year. Al (xx 1943) privated me to say that he and other guests would join in at BIL tables either to play or coach if it were used more. Suggestion: you might get a quote from him and some of the others to this effect to use in the 'wrap-up' Gazette. Getting to play with and/or as opp with such people as Al, Oliver, 'Caspar,' Bob McPhee, and many others was fantastic. And once I and others got over the initial intimidation (not the best word) we found them to be wonderful about helping - and kindly giving advice. I know your special events team already is planning more 'parties' like this one.

Thank you for the unbelievably good work you and your team do. When I get some experience I will certainly help out if wanted

Thank you for organizing this event (I am always thanking you it seems!) I hope that all of us will now be more amenable to opening a table at the BIL and asking for people to join us! It was a lot of fun.

The marathon is such a good idea as it fills the BIL with tables which otherwise stands desperately empty most of the time !!

It has been very funny to play and meet many "old" BIL friends and even more to meet a lot of new friends. Thank You very much.

I tremendously enjoyed the marathon meeting new friends and learning new techniques.

I would like to tell you that I was privileged to play with Leggy Godiv, who is bright and kind and dedicated. She would explain how to make more when I didn't see "the way". Bil is filled with such kind people who make life worth living and bridge worth playing by giving so generously of their time and knowledge. I was also able to play with ivarnios a while, who is equally "super" (in my grand-daughter's words.) I love the atmosphere in our club.

Thanks for setting up the Marathon it has been a fun experience and have met some great people.

Wonderfull event, meeting and getting to play with one another, with  Beginners and Experts! Made No difference to me for not scoring,  but the laughs and chattttssss...Having fun but trying your best ..was MY sprit of this Marathon.

<from a Guest> What was so cute is that I received greetings over the next few days from BILies saying “thanks for playing with me” I had a great time and popped on to play as much as I could. Thanks for creative idea to add fun to BBO.Shirley (sybarra)

thanks for bringing new players into the wonderful world of bridge.

I played 2 days practically continuously :) and enjoyed it :)

I played 35 boards on the Marathon10 during this wonderful Bridge Marathon. I always feel it is a privilege to be a member of the Bil club.

IT WAS A GREAT IDEA - HOPE YOU HAVE MORE OF THESE.

From Ivarnois (Caspar the Ghost)
thank you for   ur hard work and kindness and i am there every night till the wee hours watching and jumping in and     encouraging and have had promises from  2 more who want to join BIL  so will remind them again and find out whether they have done so. i will continue being there at The Marathon every day   -   <he was too>

The Marathon has been (and is) a great opportunity! I enjoyed the opportunity to meet so many players and we all had a great time

I played only 4 boards.  Had ftf bridge which competed for time.  Next year will do more. But friends new to BBO used it as an introduction which was good.

I finally got enough courage to participate in one or two games with other players who were fun and very patient.  And, while I was playing one particular hand, Casper the Ghost dropped in.  He did not tell me how to play the hand but he did provide me with sound advice which I followed with success.  What a feeling! As a result of the Marathon 10 I am looking forward to playing with other people as well as the robots.

Thanks for the wonderfull event.  Best new year in a long time.

What a lovely event, and such friendlyness from all.

Thank you for all that you do for all of us.  I am so delighted with BBO and the advantages offered to me.

I am so pleased it was such a great success and I had a chance to be part of it. So thanks again for your wonderful vision and your wonderful assistants that makes it possible for the BIL to grow.

I am so grateful for the BIL. Is the best that happened to me to discover this wonderful place to play bridge. I wish that BILlies played more in our BIL place. Merci for everything you gave us

Wonderful wonderful wonderful this Marathon10 !!  It was fun, the atmosphere was perfect and all those ADVANCED and EXPERTS............ oh my........!!  Everyone was lovely.  Have just been kibbutzing a bit (15.30 Italy), two tables 6/7 kibs, including our xx1943, keeping a fatherly eye on things.  This Marathon10 has given me courage to fling myself into the fray without fear: and I've learnt something more about bridge!! Thank you one and all for this marvellous opportunity, for all the hard work (I wonder how much Maureen managed to sleep these days!?) done by those concerned in getting it running and going with or without hitches! Thank you!

Im a great kibber.Too nervous to sit , even at the Acol club- anyway this Marathon has got me playing even though they dont know my system. Ive enjoyed it so much. Want it to go on ... forever !!

**********

CONGRADULATIONS!  Your Marathon was so wonderful, as the Olympic Spirit of the MARATHON!
And this is awarded to you by a GREEK!

The winner may have the golden olive crown forever, but all the participants get the "cotinum" (the olive crown, golden, silver, bronze or even from olive branches and leaves)

The value is exactly the same, as in ALL Olympic Games, participation counts! The "EF AGONIZESTHE" = the fair participation and trial, deserves the BEST reward of the Olympic Spirit.

In the era of the New Olympics of 1996, the athlet that won the Marathon, Spyros Louis, was a village young man.
He believed in the fair game and won with the blessings of God and the best wishes of his compatriots.

ALL Bilies deserve a "COTINUM", the crown of the fair trial and participation!

World Class Players, that offer their time to help weaker then them players, as well as all the mentors that want to offer their knowledge to the ones that want to participate in the cerebral sport of bridge, also deserve a "COTINUM" for their offer. May they continue to help!

Maureen dear, please continue to offer to all the bridge players your MAJOR offer.

Lots of love,

Eleni - Greece( BIL Teacher)
